Scientists say that the universe started with a bang, a big explosion with light coming on in an infinite sea of darkness- while the bible reads “And God said let there be light and there was light”- so from my prospective, it doesn’t appear that there is a disagreement between science and religion on how things got started. Just three years ago, I was in the area were a young man died from a car accident and was made aware of the need to be in good standings with God. At first it seemed so unfair that this man who appeared to be in the prime of life, to have to experience death. But it soon dawned on me that God is the giver and taker of life and that I know not the reasons nor should I question what He does. I remember the sayings of Job who suffered the lost of his family and wealth, stricken with sickness and pain inflicted by the devil, and pressured by his wife and friends to curse God and die. We are introduced very early in the Bible to the concept of Tithing- a practice of giving. Abraham gave Tithes to Melchizedek from the spoils of war. In this first mention of the word “Tithe” the concept of a tenth of your wealth is not conveyed. In fact, Abraham gives away all of the spoils of war with the exception of food that his men consumed and a portion that they were to receive of everything else-Gen 14:20-24.
